The start of a new adventure for the Kirk family
The story from the beginning -
At the end of 2021 Janine and Ian decided that enough was enough, it was time to make some changes to their busy lifestyle, having lived near Guildford in Surrey for a number of years.
So Ian retired from his Plumbing & Heating Services Company and Janine gave up her senior role in a Surrey based Residential Letting and Management business, following the retirement of her father from the firm that he co-founded in 1994.
So in December 2021, Janine and Ian together with Janine's parents started searching for a rural property and found Dux Farm in the heart of Devon, a small country estate which had been run as a smallholding and a popular small holiday letting business for several years.
The three period character traditional stone and cob properties comprise of Dux Farmhouse (Devon Long House) built around 1770 being 3 bedrooms, Dux Cottage built around 1825 comprising 3 bedrooms being converted from a barn, along with Higher Dux a spacious 2 bedroomed piggery conversion, also dating from 1825, the latter properties being converted around 2007.
In addition to these properties there are various quality barns, stables, stores and a large workshop all offering huge potential for the future, together with 23 acres of mixed pasture and woodland.
Having fallen in love with this dream home, plans were made to acquire the farm, and after 7 really long months the waiting was over!
They quickly got stuck in to clearing away the thistles and rubbish. Dux Farm was in need of some serious TLC!
Luckily some new farm machinery arrived a few weeks later!
In 2024 it is planned to offer "getaway holidays" with a few superior luxury custom built glamping pods set in a 2 acres meadow, close to the woods with all mod cons, peace, quiet, rural views and private woodland walks.
This will be in addition to the letting of Higher Dux, now a well appointed detached holiday cottage with private garden and rural views.
They plan to expand the hidden pond, plant a small orchard and hopefully build a heated indoor swimming pool for family and guests.
Janine and Ian already have chickens and no doubt will add some rare breed livestock in due course, once the dust has settled.
Who said anything about retirement!
